On behalf of the nursing and medical staff of the Clinic for General, Visceral and Endocrine Surgery, I would like to welcome you to the website of our Hernia Centre.

Hernias, i.e. abdominal and visceral wall hernias are so common that more than 150,000 p.a. are expected just in Germany. Unlike many other also frequent diseases, hernias are almost always curable; however, surgery is necessary. Especially when performing surgical interventions, the quality of the work is the determining factor in the successful treatment of the ailment. We have decided to continuously monitor our quality and have it audited by external experts of a professional association. We have our services certified by the German Hernia Society.

The certificate documents that we perform a lot of hernia surgeries in our department. The certified department undertake to participate in scientific studies and to compare its own results with those of other departments. This means that the quality of our own work is also verified through periodic controlling and follow-up examinations. It must be documented that the surgeons regularly participate in scientific conventions and seminars to ensure that they act in compliance with and make decisions based upon the latest know-how status. The results of this quality control are transparent and may be reviewed at our end at any time upon request.

We are the first centre on the Lower Rhine to use the daVinci System for certain diaphragm and abdominal wall hernias and have been doing so since 2018. The benefit: A reduced percentage of conventional surgeries with larger cuts into the skin, reduced wound infection rates and clinic stays that are up to a week shorter.
